NACC sixth in South District 8 Championships after opening round
The Northeast Alabama Community College men's golf team's quest for a trip to nationals started on a solid note.
The Mustangs are in sixth place following Sunday's opening round of the 2026 National Junior College Division II South District 8 Men's Golf Championships at Cider Ridge Golf Club in Oxford.
The tournament's team champion and runner-up as well as the Top-10 finishing individual golfers advance to next month's NJCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championships in Plymouth, Indiana.
NACC is just 13 shots out of second place following Round 1.
Braden Holt led the Mustangs' opening-round effort with a 6-over par 78. The freshman was 16th on the player leaderboard — six shots off the lead — after an opening round that included 10 pars and one birdie.
Sophomore Reed Potter is 20th after Round 1 for NACC after carding a 7-over par 79 during a round that featured nine pars and two birdies. Sophomore Ethan Roberts is 22nd after an opening-round 8-over par 80 that included 12 pars while fellow sophomore Greyson Widgeon shot a 10-over par 82 and is 29th following a round that included eight pars. Freshman Reece McKlintok is 51st after shooting 16-over par.
The Mustangs are back on the course Monday for Round 2 of the three-round tournament.
